Altrincham Christmas Lights
Trafford Council has allocated funds across the boroughs including Altrincham to brighten up our high streets this Christmas with a £54,000 investment in Christmas lights.

We know its only September but groups and organisations around Trafford and Altrincham are already putting in the leg work to make this Christmas enjoyable for everyone.

Trafford Council are supporting Altrincham and the other town and district centres by allocating funds towards Christmas lights , in total £54,000. Christmas is a time for growth as retailers and restaurants get busier and to help tempt people to shop in our local shops Trafford Council are helping to fund organisations involved in the Christmas lights and decorations.

By working with traders and brightening up Altrincham and Trafford this added investment should help make the high streets more appealing and a much nicer place to spend your Christmas budgets. If we can tempt people to Altrincham and away from Manchester City Centre or the Trafford Centre this will be a big boost to the local community and economy.

Trafford council wants to work closely with Centre partnerships helping them come up with new and creative schemes for each area, the plans are long term hoping that these imaginative schemes can be rotated each year between the different districts and towns benefiting everyone with fresh lights and decorations for Christmas.

Leader of Trafford Council, Cllr Matt Colledge, said:

“The council is committed to supporting our local businesses and communities and I am delighted that we are once again able to invest in Christmas lights for our town and district centres.

“Christmas lights not only help to bring the festive spirit into our communities, they also create an inviting atmosphere which encourages people to come out and shop, bringing further benefits for local businesses. I look forward to seeing these displays coming to life in the run up to Christmas.”

What would you like to see this year for Christmas, are you a fan of traditional Christmas decorations that may tie in nicely with the towns heritage, or are you more in favour of more modern decorations or simple unobtrusive Christmas lights? Altrincham welcomes the help that Trafford Council are giving, however more funds may need to be raised through Altrincham Town Centre Partnership.

I always prefer traditional lights……..however!!!!! What Altrincham needs to take shoppers from Manchester, Wilmslow, Trafford Centre etc is Unique Selling Points, therefore we need something that will make Alty stand out above the competition, something unique, innovative and different. I don’t have the imagination to think of anything at the moment, but I cant help but think that using height might be an idea as it was a star in the sky that lead the 3 wise shoppers – men – to Bethlehem. Ambitious, but some very high structure with lasers?

I do like the idea of tradition because of Altrincham’s rich heritage but anything that is done tastefully is good with me

A laser show might be ambitious depending on budget but a great idea we will be interested to hear what the organisers have planned.

I agree with you, Nick, that we should be pushing Altrincham’s independents and unique items, if you look at the Traders Outlook and no 16 the Downs or any of the markets you can gifts that you cannot find anywhere else!
