Altrincham Girls Grammar School holding Fashion Show

On May 25th Altrincham Grammar School for Girls are holding a Fashion Show to raise money and awareness for their partner school in South Africa.

Altrincham Grammar School for Girls has been partnered with Zephania Secondary School in South Africa since 2003. Zephania have hosted 3 trips to the school since 2004, the last one in 2007.

Zephania Secondary school is in the East of South Africa approximately 150 km from the city of Durban. The school community has a lot of unemployed parents, approximately 70% of the local population. The community hasn’t got the provisions we have over here for the unemployed and the parents of many of the schools children recieve no income at all and have to rely on subsistence farming. The students have to face a lot of challenges, teaching in the school is mostly in English, a second language to the students, and a lot have additional responsibilities such as caring for elder relatives or younger siblings. It is normal for the students to have to walk miles to school and spend their evenings doing household chores.

Altrincham Grammar School for girls are actively involved in raising money and awareness for their partner school in South Africa and the fashion show is the most recent of their events.

The girls from years 7 to 12 will be taking part in the fashion show on Friday 25th May, in additiona to raising funds for Zephania Secondary School they are also raising money for the charity, Joseph’s Journey.

New Look in Altrincham, have supported and teamed up with the Girls at Altrincham Grammar School for girls and provided outfits for the girls to wear. Aside from the fashion show itself, the event will incldancing, singing, musical instruments and other performances from the talented girls.
