Altrincham Market sets out a way forward for future success

April 12, 2013 2:51 pm

A promising future for Altrincham Market is in the pipeline after Trafford Council today announced that its operational management is to go out to formal tender.

The decision to outsource the running of the market supports the aims of Altrincham Forward, to see it transformed as part of a vibrant new Market Quarter with Altrincham firmly back on the map as a thriving modern market town.

The Council is particularly interested in how it can best work with an operator that shares its vision to make the Market area become the heart of the town centre. The Council is looking for individuals or organisations who will share a passion for driving the market forward and, who will be bold and innovative in order to attract more traders and shoppers to the market.

In January 2013, Market Place Management Ltd (MPML) was commissioned by Trafford to carry out an independent expert review of the Market. The review examined its current management and operation and produced recommendations on alternative management options.  It also developed a vision and strategy for the longer term sustainability of the market, in line with the aspirations of the key stakeholders in the town.

Leader of Trafford Council and Chair of the Altrincham Forward Board, Councillor Matt Colledge, said: “We want to get the offer right for Altrincham Town Centre and the historic Market Quarter, to bring back shoppers and entice both local people and visitors into the town.

This decision to look for a provider and the independent review by MPML only further supports our determination to meet the aims and aspirations envisaged for Altrincham Market in the future.”

Individuals or organisations interested in the operation, management and development of Altrincham Market who meet the specified requirements are invited to tender by the closing date of 27th May 2013. An open day for suppliers will also take place week beginning 13th May, to allow prospective bidders to learn more about the transformation of Altrincham Market.
