Altrincham Forward has won the ‘Partnership and Strategic Working’ category for the West zone* of Action for Market Towns’ prestigious Towns Alive Awards 2013.

Beating off competition from across the West Midlands and North West, Altrincham Forward’s entry: ‘Progress Through Partnership’, received praise from the judges for its innovative interest free loan – which was developed in consultation with businesses and the Landlords’ forum; the benefits to the community, and the ease with which this approach can be replicated in other areas.

The judges commented that they liked the idea of loans rather than grants as it meant that the money could be recycled and used again, plus it gave the recipients “a higher sense of responsibility for the work they commission.”

Having won the category for the West zone, Altrincham Forward’s entry will now be judged against the three other category winners, and overall zone and category winners will be announced at Action for Market Towns’ convention awards dinner on the 6 November in Congleton.

Speaking about the award, Councillor Matt Colledge, Chair of Altrincham Forward and Leader of Trafford Council, said: “This is simply fantastic news for Altrincham town centre, as it provides independent endorsement that the partnership approach we are taking to regenerating and reinvigorating the town centre, is the right one.

“It’s our aim to share this successful approach with other Trafford town centres to ensure maximum benefit across the Borough.”

Chris Wade, Chief Executive of Action for Market Towns said:

“We can’t pretend that towns and high streets are not facing tough conditions and challenges. But they’re not sitting back and waiting for a knight in shining armour to save them.

“Altrincham Forward’s entry demonstrated passion, commitment, inventive ideas and a will to make these ideas happen, creating a project which has already begun to provide real benefits for its community and its businesses.”
