Banners Approved For Altrincham

AltrinchamLast week we reported that banners were proposed on lamp posts around Altrincham, these have now been approved after a planning meeting last week.

Last week Altrincham and Bowdon Civic Society held a meeting to discussed the proposal of 23 banners that would be placed in Altrincham town centre. There were a number of objections from local groups who felt that the double sided banners would not give off the right image for Altrincham on Stamford New Road and Railway Street.

Despite these objections the planning committee did not agree with the concerns voiced and the move was given the go ahead. Councillors understood residents concerns but felt that the banners would not cause any detrimental effects to the area and would in some cases ‘add colour to the street scene’.

Sue Nichols, speaking on behalf of Altrincham and Bowdon Civic Society said of the decision:

“All the groups and residents who objected are very disappointed.

“I would however like to thank the Councillors who did vote to refuse the application. They understood and embraced the idea of Conservation Areas and saw that permanent banners advertising products unrelated to any town, only spoil and cheapen the street scene.”

If you think the banners are a good idea or a bad idea why not post on our facebook wall or comment below?
