Leading  high-street music chain, Dawsons, has renewed the lease on its Stamford New Road store, demonstrating its commitment to Altrincham and confidence in the strength of the retail market in the town.

The 115-year old business, which sells all things musical to all types of musicians, first opened in Altrincham in the early 1980s. In 2005 it moved into much larger premises, where it has been ever since.

Speaking about the lease renewal, Stuart Marshall, store manager, said: “Altrincham has always been a strong town musically, with excellent schools developing talented musicians from an early age.

“We feel it is vital to get out of the store environment and go to where musicians feel most at home, so we’ve developed strong links with many live venues in Altrincham, for example Bloom Live.

“It is this combination of factors – the strong musical schools and the lively music scene – which has contributed to our success in the town, and so it made absolute sense for us to renew the lease on our Stamford New Road premises.”

Councillor Matthew Colledge, Chair of Altrincham Forward and Leader of Trafford Council, said: “The fact Dawsons – such an established and well respected business – has chosen to renew the lease on its Stamford New Road store speaks volumes about Altrincham and the improving picture for retail in the town.

“This is great news for Altrincham town centre, as it signals that the approach we are taking to regenerating and reinvigorating the town centre, is having an impact in building a confident and successful future for Altrincham.”
