Launch of Altrincham Originals this ‘Independents Day’

Altrincham Originals, a campaign to promote Altrincham’s independent businesses is being launched this ‘Independents Day’, Thursday 4 July, to coincide with American Independence Day.

The campaign, led by Altrincham Forward, will run throughout July during Independent Retailers Month to promote Altrincham’s existing independent businesses and to encourage local residents to support their local traders.

Altrincham Originals will celebrate the shops, bars and restaurants that are original to the town – some well-established – and some very new.

Altrincham Forward has produced stickers for all independent traders so they can display them in their windows to show they are an ‘Altrincham Original’, and a leaflet has been produced to showcase just some of the town’s independent businesses.

The town centre team will be handing out leaflets around Altrincham town centre on Saturday 6 July to promote the campaign and showcase the range of independent retailers to visitors watching the Altrincham Festival parade.

Councillor Matt Colledge, Chair of Altrincham Forward and Leader of Trafford Council, said:

“Independent businesses are crucial to the revitalisation of Altrincham and particularly to achieving Altrincham Forward’s vision of a town centre with a distinct identity.

“This week we are launching Altrincham Originals, our own independents campaign running throughout July, part of a wider campaign to encourage people to ‘shop local’.

“Altrincham has some of the best high street names, but it also offers a huge range of independent shops, bars and restaurants too, providing superb food and a great atmosphere.

“Together our independent businesses make living here a unique experience -they are Altrincham’s Originals. We must appreciate them and use them, because we won’t find them anywhere else.”
