The Retrosettes

The Retrosettes are a quartet making new songs sound old and old songs sound vintage.  They use authentically old instruments and stick to a sound that has influences from Northern Soul, Jazz, Blues, Motown, and 60s Pop.  The band includes local Jazz musicians Nick Blacka  - Double and electric bass, Andy Brown – Keys, Paul Bytheway – Guitar and Vocals, Rob Turner – Drums.

Jeremy Sassoon

One of the country’s most in-demand jazz pianists and bandleaders, Jeremy Sassoon’s distinctive and evocative style encompassing genres of Jazz, Blues and Soul. As a keyboard player/MD, he has already appeared at the North Sea Jazz Festival (The Hague), The Jazz Café (Camden) and Phoenix Festival as M.D. for Warner Bros recording artist Dana Bryant, as well as The Iridium Jazz Club (NYC), and several appearances at the Manchester, Wigan, Birmingham, Marsden and Albacete (Spain) Jazz Festivals. He has regularly toured Spain and entertained at The Americas Cup Final sailing regatta in Valencia. He has also played in San Francisco, Sydney, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Austria and Switzerland.

John Ellis

John Ellis is a legendary keyboardist and singer who has been involved in the music scene around Manchester for a number of years. He has worked with The Cinematic Orchestra, John Squire (Stone Roses), Corinne Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, Tom Jones, and currently James Yorkston and Kirsty Almeida. He has had a significant influence on a number of Manchester’s finest musicians and many of our Bloom favourites. He also produces music from a studio called Limefield in North Manchester.

Freak Out Disco Band

This five-piece Merseyside based band specialise in disco classics from Chic, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Earth Wind & Fire, Rose Royce, The Emotions and many, many more.  The band is made up of top-class musicians and play their repertoire with true authenticity.

René are the most exciting band on the Manchester soul funk scene. Paul Bytheway

Paul started out as a Jazz and Swing singer and has worked with various groups around the North West and the Midlands.  Over the last 8 years he has fused his love of Jazz with popular music from the 60s and 70s right up to the present day to create a unique band called ‘The Retrosettes’. Paul will show where his influences have come from in this solo set when he accompanies himself with both guitar and piano and moves between genres such as funk, soul, jazz and pop with his unmistakably retro style.

Kirsty Almeida

Kirsty Almeida draws you into her enchanting, uplifting and, at times, devilishly dark world. Classic song writing mixes with murder lullabies, broken blues-folk beauty, New Orleans soul, voodoo-tinged-pop and a healthy dose of Tim Burton-style brooding.
Kirsty is an all round creative and a highly innovative artist. Her visionary approach attracted the attention of BBC Television who broadcast a ten-minute documentary on how Kirsty is creating new and exciting paths in the music industry as an independent artist.

The Alphabets


During the 60’s and 70’s, The Alphabets toured internationally alongside legends such as Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Ike & Tina Turner, Edwin Starr, The Tymes, Freda Payne, Jimmy Cliff, and Desmond Dekker, to name just a few.  Their superb repertoire of solid gold reggae, soul and funk classics is guaranteed to make this an especially entertaining evening.

Harvey Kaye

Harvey is a singer/songwriter and guitarist from the Altrincham area. Whilst at University in Nottingham, he regularly played and sung at some of the city’s most popular student acoustic nights. He covers a whole variety of songs both old and new, often incorporating songs into medleys and always with his own take. Being a student of Spanish and having spent some time living in Argentina, there are some Spanish songs that appear as part of his set. He has also written his own songs inspired by his travelling over the past few years and he loves to share these with his audience.
