Santa Is Coming To Town!

November 27, 2013 4:54 pm

On Saturday 30 November between 10am and 4pm, the Altrincham Forward office will be transformed into a magical Santa’s Grotto!

Altrincham Forward and the Rotary Club of Altrincham invite the public to take a break from their Christmas shopping and bring their little ones to the Grotto at Altrincham Forward on Shaws Road, opposite the market, to meet Santa and get into the Christmas spirit.

The event is free of charge but any donations would be gratefully received by the Rotary Club who are aiming to raise £1,000 to support the Mayor of Trafford’s charity for 2013. The charity raises funds with support from community groups, organisations and other fundraising activities for the purchase of life-saving defibrillators which can be placed in town centres and a variety of other publicly accessible locations across Trafford.

David Collington, Foundation President of the Rotary Club of Altrincham said: “The Mayor’s Charity is raising money for a fantastic cause this year. We would ask the public to spare whatever they can this Christmas to help us purchase a new defibrillator which is much needed in our community and really does save lives.”

There will also be the opportunity to help the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal who are asking the public to donate Christmas presents for children who might otherwise not receive any.

The gifts could be anything from soft toys for the very youngest to CDs, games and vouchers for older children and teenagers. The only requirement is that the present is new, unused and unwrapped.

Over the years, millions of children and young people have benefited from gifts donated to The Salvation Army. By giving a gift to the Christmas Present Appeal you can make a real difference to someone’s life at Christmas.

Altrincham Town Centre Manager Paul Armstrong said: “We’ve had fantastic support from local people who came out in their droves to the Lights Switch On last Saturday and the Christmas markets have also been very well attended so far. Hopefully Santa will prove to be just as popular! The Christmas Appeal is a very worthy cause and we’re pleased to be doing our bit to help give a child a Christmas to remember.”

The Grotto has kindly been sponsored by Nikal, developers of Altair in Altrincham.
